December 2025 Indivisible Meeting
=================================
Our monthly meeting was held on Tuesday, December 2nd, at the Black Diamond Library. Attendance remains light, at 14 people. At this meeting we discussed several items, including:
- How to keep supporting the local community. A new idea we had was supporting students at local schools who are not able to afford a suit or dress for prom and other formal dances. A great local organization is Ruby Room, which has a site in Renton. You can find more information here: https://www.rubyroomseattle.org.
- The second topic of conversation was a continuation of the discussion of the grant funding for our organization. We decided that an event table and tent with a large sign would be great for all our events, including if we might participate in the Maple Valley Farmer's Market. Also, a flashy item like a spinning wheel to attract attention, especially for kids, would be great to start a conversation. We also plan to start selling t-shirts and other items on our website as a fundraising mechanism. If you have other ideas for the use of the grant funding and fundraising ideas, please let us know! We plan to submit the grant proposal in January 2026, after discussing this with the other regional groups at a meeting next month.
- The third item was a local group, Washington Neighborhood Defense (WAND), that is supporting local immigrants and other groups targeted by ICE. They are canvassing businesses to provide information on how to support employees and customers. You can find more information here: https://linktr.ee/waneighborhooddefense.
- The fourth item was to support local events such as Maple Valley Days, Pride Flag raising, etc. This is where purchasing the tent and table materials would be very useful. We are having some folks gather up all the local event days to see about getting volunteers for these events.
OUR NEXT MEETING IS AT THE MAPLE VALLEY LIBRARY.
Meeting Action Items:
We concluded with the following action items:
- Include information on Braver Angels and the proposed coffee hour in the newsletter.
- Anti-ICE Whistles: Other Indivisible Chapters are using 3D printers to create these in bulk for members and other interested people. ICE has started to be seen in the area, so these could be very useful.
- Increased marketing by posting materials at local businesses such as coffee shops, grocery stores, etc.
- Work with WA Indivisible during the 2026 Primary elections to support candidates.
- [VOLUNTEER NEEDED] We are looking for someone to attend the Tahoma School Board meetings and provide information back to our group. Please reach out if interested!
